Cat Tech (as a licensee of Norsk Hydro) if offering this catalyst loading technology
for the filling of primary reformer tubes in ammonia, methanol, hydrogen and other
reformer-based plants.
UNIDENSETM is a simple and fast loading technology
applicable to tube sizes 3" to 10" in internal diameter.
UNIDENSETM requires no pre-socking of catalyst and no vibration
of reformer tubes.
UNIDENSETM combines a high-quality loading with fast loading
technology. Reloading of tubes is normally avoided, reducing catalyst waste.
UNIDENSETM principle: Catalyst is filled into the tube
along a loading rope which is gradually pulled from the tube as the catalyst layer builds. Brushes
along the length of the loading rope reduce the speed of the falling catalyst so that breakage is avoided.
This results in loading without bridges and extra voids of catalyst particles, hence there is no need for vibration.
UNIDENSETM technology, the loading time of a primary reformer can be
substantially reduced while maintaining a high-quality loading. Typical loading time for 4" tubes is 8 minutes.
UNIDENSETM ensures that pressure drop variation of the tubes will be
within a narrow range, assuring even gas flow in the tubes. The density will normally be higher than with the
loading sock method, resulting in slightly increased - but more even - pressure drop, due to better packing.
Since there are no extra voids, further settling of the catalyst - and thus pressure drop increase
- will be minimal.
UNIDENSETM gives high uniform density along the full length
of the tube, providing less tendency to hot spots and contributing to lower tube wall temperatures and prolonged tube life.
UNIDENSETM has been used for the unloading of all common
catalyst types and sizes. Reformer tube designs with varying internal diameter, narrow or wide
top section, have successfully been loaded.
